Little Dogs Playing Poker Original Canvas Painting is an acrylic work spoofing “A Friend In Need” by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge. There’s a certain level of absurdity in the idea of a bunch of old-school Little People dogs playing a game of poker without even paws. Even more absurd is the oversized dog with very little brain munching on one of his play-cards. Imagine one of these rascals trying to cheat in a game of poker.
This acrylic painting features various little dogs from my childhood. The wooden dog in the center back. The traditional dog with the black body, which was pretty common back in the 1980’s. The classic plastic green table with chairs from my Little People picnic set. In the background on the wall is a tribute to Edouard Manet’s Olympia, with her head not completely screwed together.
This is my first painting using Turner Colour Works U35 acrylic paints. I purchased a set from Japan as soon as they were available. U35 acrylic paints are artist-quality paints known for their quality and lightfastness. I was very impressed with my first experience using U35 Acrylics, and spent gobs more money on additional colors and mediums.
