“The Howler” is painting #4 in the “Little Spoofs” series. I had gotten the itch to spoof Edvard Munch’s infamous “The Scream”. By this point, I had also built up a large collection of oil pastels in which I wanted to work. I’ve played around with them in my sketchbooks, but I never had done anything serious. Instead of a lunatic screaming his head off, I used a Little Dog whaling away.
This painting is actually a combination of oil pastels and oil paint on a 16 x 20 inch canvas. This paint has been sealed with acrylic varnish. (It is a varnish manufactured by Talens, and it actually works!)
